heart of 2 leaves
For ME298, we were assigned a challenge to create something that is large in volume but low in weight. I decided to create a voluminous heart formed by 2 abstract leaves. I wanted to create the space between the 2 leaves interesting, so that the heart appears differently (but still, quite noticeably, a heart) from different angles). Like leaves, the outer side has more texture (the stem and outer leaf are finished using a pin finish, with the stems having a finer pin finish), whereas the inner "waxy" sides are at a high polish. I used patina to emphasize and add color to the leaves' veins. For perspective, this heart weighs 11 grams. I hand carved this piece out of wax and cast it in sterling silver.
